Nabadwip – the nine islands

Nabadwip also known as Navadwip, meaning “nine islands” is a city that is situated in the Nadia District. This particular city comes under the municipality of Nadia district. Nabadwip is one of the most famous historical places that West Bengal has. Nabadwip can be called as one of the most important centers for learning. It has a history of having great institutes attached to its name. This place is filled with the history of birth of many great personalities like that of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Geographical location:
This particular city has a total area of 98.1 square kilometres and an elevation of 14 metres. This city can somewhat be considered as an urban city and has a density of 1300 square kilometres in population.
Places to visit:
One can find many places to visit here. They can go to various outings with family and friends.
  • The Sonar Gouranga temple is one of the most favoured places to visit. This temple gets its individuality from the golden shrine of the great Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was a reformist who worked in making the society a better place.

·  Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math: This was another memoir of the great saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Its building was started by the king Om Vishnupad Sri Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Maharaj.

·  Dwadas Shiv Mandir: Built in the year 1835 this particular temple is known for its exclusive floral designs. The celebration of Maha shiv ratri in this temple that can stun anyone.

There are many more places to visit here, one just need to have their sense of adventure turned on.

Things to do:
There are many things to do in Nabadwip. This particular city is meant for the purpose of pilgrimage but that simply doesn’t mean that it is any less fun. The Poila Baishakh or the beginning of the Bengali New Year is a sight to cherish.

Then starting from the Rath Yatra to the Ganga puja and Durga Puja one can only expect the sights to get better with the occasions.

Food and accommodation:

There are facilities of various guest houses and hotels here. The Iskon guest house to the Nabadwip Municipal hotel and etc. can give one the best kind of experience. The accommodation here is really cheap and affordable. Similarly, being located on the banks of Hooghly, the cuisine out here is mostly coastal and has a taste of Bengali cuisine.

How to reach??

The nearest airport here is the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International airport that is situated in Kolkata and has a distance of about 121 kms. There are multiple trains from this city to the surrounding many like that of Krishna Nagar, which is 20 km away from here. There are multiple buses from Kolkata and Howrah to Nabadwip which are almost all the time available.
